In a recent discussion with Dawn Lockhart, head of the Jacksonville nonprofit Family Foundations, we were lamenting the continued downward spiral of newspaper circulation numbers. We both recognized that a lot of young people don’t read the “paper” newspaper, they read it online or get their news from other sources.

But both of us stated that newspapers, particularly the editorial page, were an important way for nonprofits to reach some of their target audiences.

In addition to getting a pat on the back for good work performed, the editorial page also provides savvy nonprofits with a window to important community issues. It should be a way for nonprofits to address the good work that they do in terms of the leading concerns a community might have.

So whether you have to have the newsprint between your fingers or rather read it on the computer monitor, don’t miss out on this opportunity to promote your cause.
